MY AGE: 3 years WEIGHT: 15lbs

MY STORY: Foster Update 4/30:
Cherry is doing great in his foster home. He hasn't been here a week but has learned so many new things, including how to go UP a flight of 4 stairs. He caught on to going down right away.

We took him to the dog park and on an errand run and I can confidently say he is good in the car! And he does get along with other dogs.

Other new developments: Cherry has discovered that a dog bed is for him. For the first two nights he laid next to it but then watched my dog use it. He got in and he gets it now! He usually falls asleep watching tv in the evening in his dog bed.

I see him attempting to go up the long flight of stairs to the second floor. He watches the other dog do it, so he knows it's possible. I'm sure he'll get it soon enough.

We took a walk all the way around the block this morning and he did great! He doesn't get startled with cars going by; he's surprisingly chill, but I do think it's because he really loves to be outdoors. He just watches people walk by. Doesn't bark or get too excited. He doesn't pull on the leash and he clearly watches the other dog to get clues about what to do.

He is also now taking treats regularly from my hand, which he wasn't doing before. I betcha he'll have "sit" mastered before long! And he is a good eater!

This morning he took a toy out of the basket! And we are seeing his tail wag! Anxiety is giving way to happiness as he adjusts to a nurturing home environment. He is still a little leery if I reach out to him too quickly but he is learning that nothing bad is happening.

Lastly, and importantly, potty training! He knows the morning routine and has it down - both #1 and #2. We're getting a better understanding of his needed intervals for going outside so I believe it's just a matter of time. He still wears a belly band inside, but doesn't need one at night in his crate. #2 is pretty good. Only two times inside, and one was the first night he was here. Cherry is a breeder release, so I think he's doing fantastic with his potty training.

I enjoy having him around. Such a good boy!

Cherry is a beautiful, petite poodle who is still coming around, but we’ve already seen positive improvements in him. He came to us from a breeder and it is quite clear that he was never exposed to much socialization. He gets nervous about people coming near him, and he seems to rely heavily on another dog for guidance/direction. Cherry is very shy and will need someone who is able to provide him with a quiet, patient home to allow him to properly gain confidence and learn all the new things that a home has to offer. He gets along great with other dogs and seems more confident with others, so having another dog in the home will be necessary for Cherry’s success in adapting to a new environment, with new people.

Please read about breeder releases on our resources page before applying.
