Cheese's Story
Cheese is a one-year-old, 19-pound, white and red Australian Cattle Dog mix who is learning that the world can be a kinder place than the one he has known. This sweet young boy has been through more than any dog should ever have to endure, but he’s beginning to discover the joys of love, affection, and feeling safe.

Cheese was abandoned on a property with nearly 20 other dogs, left outside without food or water. Desperate with hunger, the dogs began killing the neighbors’ chickens, and the situation became so dangerous that the neighbors started shooting at them. When county officers finally intervened, some of the dogs were in such poor condition that they had to be humanely euthanized immediately. Thankfully, Cheese survived and is now getting the chance he deserves.

Despite his difficult past, Cheese is making wonderful progress! Our Animal Coordinator has been working closely with him, and he now greets her with a wagging tail and happily welcomes pets all over his body. He’s even offered her a tiny kiss! These may seem like small steps, but for a dog who has experienced so much fear and deprivation, they are beautiful signs of growing trust.

Cheese is still learning about the world. Leash walks are a work in progress, and sudden movements and loud noises can frighten him. He can be picked up, and with patience, kindness, and gentle encouragement, he has the potential to keep blossoming. Cheese needs an understanding adopter who will let him build confidence at his own pace and celebrate each little victory along the way. A friendly, well-matched canine companion might also help him feel more comfortable as he continues learning.

Cheese has already shown us how brave he can be. Now he needs someone willing to give him the time, security, and love to discover just how good life can get. Could you be the person who helps this deserving little boy feel safe and loved for good?

Cheese’s adoption fee is $250, which includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, a microchip, and a complimentary wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital.

Please call 602-971-1334 to schedule an appointment to meet Cheese. You can also visit Home Fur Good Thursday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., during our walk-in hours.
