CHECKERS FLORES

Checkers was abandoned in Norwalk California at 4 months of age. His family wanted to go on a vacation and didn't want to pay for boarding. Very fortunately, a rescue friend scooped him up for us! He lived outside from 8 weeks old. We were told his dad is a Maltese and mother Black Havanese mix. <br/><br/>He had no vaccinations nor was he cared for ~ fed properly or groomed. Our wonderful marketing advisor Jolynne Flores agreed to foster (and name) Checkers! He arrived Mid November 2025.<br/><br/>Checkers constantly plays with Jolynne's Chihuahua, Trecks, 4 year old female, 17 pound Chihuahua. They play all day and give each other the zoomies. Checkers is only 6 months old! He was denied learning normal puppy behavior through learning from momma dog, as he was separated too young but, he is catching up quickly about how to play and be loved with Trecks as his guide. Jolynne also has a cat and Checkers would like to play but kitty says no way! <br/><br/>Now that Checkers is fully vaccinated he is cleared to start walking in public on a leash. He still has puppy car ride sickness which he will grow out of by usually a year of age. He is fully potty trained to outside and sleeps in bed with Jolynne and Trecks. He is crate trained ... he’s not thrilled with the crate but tolerates it. He is negative fecal to laboratory, heartworm negative and microchipped with Home Again. Checkers should be about 14 pounds as an adult.<br/><br/>You are a: Retired or semi retired couple with one adult home (or working from home). You have another dog 5-6 or younger who would love to play with a little brother. We know how well he does with a female (Trecks) and think as long as your dog is fun loving and not aggressive, he would do ok with a brother.<br/><br/>We believe when you know more you do better and after 13 years and over a thousand dogs rescued/placed we have learned to educate on a dog having longevity. To that end we do not spay or neuter puppies until they are a year old. We have much research on these practices lending themselves to a longer life for our dogs. Please feel free to ask us any questions regarding this and look up Dr. Karen Becker - spay/neuter to further understand from a veterinarians point of view why this should be the future practice for ALL dogs. Our standard poodles and doodles we rescue are not fixed until they are 2 years old and we have x-ray proof that their long bones have fused. When the time comes, we will make arrangements to perform Checkers Neuter at our vet or a vet closer to you where possible.<br/><br/>Our adoption donation is $750 and includes all original veterinary paperwork.
