Checkers is an affectionate and attentive dog. She is so intelligent that she listens and responds to voice commands and hand signals as her foster mom works with her.  Checkers minds well and enjoys coming to her name when called.  She is loyal, healthy and athletic, and enjoys playing with other dogs as well as people.  She behaves very well around the 3-year-old child in her foster family. Rescued as a stray in the hot, high desert and never claimed, Checkers nevertheless has a happy, willing  disposition. She is eager to please.
