Charmin's Story

Update 2/23/06: Charmin needs a foster home immediately, or she will be sent back to her originating shelter in Arkansas. Please contact Cindy_AHR@yahoo.com or almosthomerescue@maine.rr.com if you can foster Charmin

Update 02/08/06: Charmin is looking for another foster home because of a change in circumstances at her residence. The ideal foster home or adoptive home would be one that is willing and able to spend time with Charmin, using calm assertive training techniques. Charmin will require formal obedience training and will go to a home that has experience with training large dogs. Charmin will only be placed in a home without other dogs, or dogs who are larger than her, as she plays too rough. If you are interested and qualify, please contact Krys_AHR@yahoo.com

Update 01/17/06: From Charmins foster mom, "Charmin is a beautiful one-year-old golden Labrador retriever weighing approximately 60-70 pounds. She is an extremely high energy dog and will need lots of exercise to channel her abundance of energy. She is very friendly even in her interaction with strangers but should not be placed in a home with small children as she is very excitable and does not realize her own strength when around them. Cats, birds or other small animals would also not be best around Charmin as it appears she may have been trained to retrieve in the past. She is currently in care with two other dogs but would likely thrive better in an environment where she can have undivided attention. Charmin does not take "no" for an answer and would benefit from obedience training to learn manners and basic commands. She has a licking habit and will jump to any height to be able to smother you with kisses. Charmin is housetrained and with gentle reminding, chews only on her own toys. She is also kennel trained - this seems to be the only place she feels safe enough to get some sleep."

Recently rescued from a high kill shelter in Arkansas; Charmin, a beautiful yellow lab, possibly full bred, found her way somehow to the doggie slammer. This is where we found and rescued her.

She is approximately 1 to 2 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. Charmin is currently in foster care in the Central Maine area. She adores people of all ages and smothers them with hugs and kisses. Charmin however is an ALPHA dog. She wants to show resident dogs that she is in charge. This can create quite an uproar in homes that are not familiar with this behavior. Charmin may do well as an only dog. If you are interested in Charmin, please contact us. Formal obedience training is required with this adoption.Charmin does do well with older children but would be better off without cats or rabbits.

Her adoption fee is $200.00.
Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and should be e-mailed to adoptions_AHR@yahoo.com
