Charlie's Story
Hi, my name is Charlie! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Friendly, affectionate, energetic young dog who is a little "ruff" around the edges. Good boy with SO MUCH POTENTIAL!
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history with kids. Teens ages 14+ may be okay (Charlie had some handling sensitivities and initial stranger danger when he first arrived at the shelter). Introductions done here at the shelter to make sure it is a good match!
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history, but do not recommend. Will likely overwhelm.
-Can Live with Dogs: No, Charlie is reactive towards other dogs and will need to work on training/socialization.
-Can do Apartment Living: No, would do best in a home with a yard
-Potty Trained: Appears so!
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, at least one private lesson
-Energy Level: Medium
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a neuter
-Additional Information:
Charlie is a cuddly, active, and silly dog who was brought to the shelter as a stray. We don't know much about his history, but it seems Mr. Charlie probably has not had much in the way of training. He knows "sit", but is eager to learn more. Charlie will need a dog-experienced person with plenty of free time to dedicate to his training and socialization. He specifically needs to work on his food-obsession and reactivity towards other dogs. Charlie loves food, like really really LOVES food. Sometimes he is so focused on food that he forgets his manners (i.e., he will look on the counter for food or get in the garbage). Charlie can also be reactive toward other dogs, especially when on leash, and would do best in a rural setting where he doesn't have to see them all the time. Charlie's going to benefit greatly from a predictable feeding schedule, puzzle feeders/interactive feedings, and consistent positive reinforcement based training. It's also essential he gets enough exercise and mental stimulation. When he's not sniffing around for treats, Charlie enjoys politely napping in his bed, giving kisses, and being showered in attention. He's a good boy at heart and we have no doubt he's going to make a wonderful companion to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
