Charlie's Story
Meet Charlie!
Charlie is a 15-year-old, 10 lb little firecracker with a big personality. He's fearless around other dogs and is energetic, bossy, spunky, fun, and full of attitude in the best way.
Charlie doesn't love being picked up, but he absolutely enjoys attention and will snuggle and seek love on his own terms. He's the kind of dog who wants to be your best friend--just with a little independence mixed in.
Charlie would do well in many types of homes, but because he's a senior, we think he'd be happiest in a quieter environment where he can relax and enjoy his golden years. That said, he has been around kids of all ages and energy levels and has lived with adults and elderly humans as well, so he's used to a variety of lifestyles.
Charlie's story is just as special as he is. He was originally an owner surrender at an emergency vet when his elderly owner was going into hospice and didn't have anyone able to take him in. Heartbreakingly, Charlie was at risk of being euthanized simply because he had nowhere to go. An ER doctor stepped in and brought him home, where Charlie has lived for the past three years.
In his foster home, Charlie has lived with three large dogs, another small dog, multiple cats, three rambunctious kids, and two adults--and he proudly runs the show. He's the boss and likes to fuss at the other dogs during outdoor let-out time, but once he's outside he's happy to trot around sniffing, exploring, and lounging in the yard.
Charlie comes inside when called, goes into his crate when asked, and sleeps through the night with no accidents. He's not a chewer, has never made a mess in the house, and doesn't need to be kenneled because he is so well trained--though he is perfectly fine being crated if needed.
Charlie is very food motivated and not a grazer. He eats his entire meal shortly after it's served. Even with only a few teeth left, he does great with kibble and hard treats.
Charlie is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated, and he's ready to find a forever home that appreciates a confident little senior with a huge heart and an even bigger personality. To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.

https://longwayhome.org/apply

❤
Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.
