Charlie Chan's Story
Charlie came to us as an owner surrender as they had to move and he could not come with them. He is a 1 year old neutered Cockapoo who is a loving lapdog.

So far, we haven’t seen Charlie have any issues with other dogs - he just wants to play! He is excited when he sees another dog and will whine to go and greet them. He is untested with cats and children, but likely would be great with kids with proper introductions. He loves people.

We haven’t seen any guarding issues, and *it is unknown but unlikely* that he has ever bitten a human or dog. He has no behavioural issues. Charlie is working on his housetraining - the first day in the foster home he had a few accidents but has only had one since. He is smart and learning how to communicate his needs.

Charlie is crate trained - he knows the word “crate” and will go right in and allow us to close the door. He sleeps in the crate quietly in another room overnight for 8 hours. He hasn’t had much free rein in the home as we get to know him but since he is young he likes to find things he can chew on - he steals socks! Because of this we crate him if we are going to leave to keep him safe.

When he is left alone, he will whine for a couple of minutes in his crate and then go to sleep. He only barks when he is with us on the couch and hears someone in the hallway - “intruder alert” - but will quiet when we tell him to.

He absolutely loves a walk and will do a happy dance when he sees the leash. He is a young dog and gets excited to sniff, run and greet other dogs so he is still practicing his leash manners. No issues with handling.

He knows “sit” and “crate” and we are working on “stay”. He is a fast learner!

He’s eating Purina Pro Plan Small Breed and gets about 1.5 cups a day, but is free-fed and will pick at it throughout the day.

Charlie has luxating patella’s, we noticed non weight bearing on the right leg. He doesn’t appear to be in pain. Dog went for a consult at TVEH and they confirmed the luxating patella, and he may require surgery in the future (which the rescue will cover).

Charlie is smart and loves being with his people. He will jump into your lap on the couch and chew his stuffy or leap into your lap on a park bench and watch the people go by. He is loving and friendly and will give you kisses. He really enjoys playing fetch with his stuffed animal and chewing dental sticks/chew toys.

Charlie is adaptable and could likely live in any home environment. He's currently in a condo and doesn't seem to mind the sounds when he is in his crate. He has no reaction to loud sounds on the street like sirens and skateboards. He would do well with another dog (likely another smaller one that likes to play), someone active, and likely a family with children with proper introductions. He is a busy boy who needs a couple of longer walks a day. He will make a family extremely happy as he is lovely and oh-so-cute!
