Charlie's Story

This adorable little guy is Charlie and he's a 5 year old long haired Dachshund mix who we think has some Bassett Hound mixed in. He's fully grown at 25 pounds and has a beautiful wavy brown coat with swirls of black fur sprinkled in. He's a lovely pup who belonged to an elderly couple who have become very ill and can no longer take care of him. They love him dearly but want to do what's best for him so they surrendered him to Long Road Home and asked us to find him a wonderful home. Charlie is a great pup and so easy to live with! He loves to be around his peeps and give lots of cuddles and hugs. He's a quiet guy who loves to go for walks & check out what's going on in the neighborhood. He gets along great with everyone he meets and especially likes hanging out with children as long as they're gentle and nice to him. He's playful with other dogs but is pretty chill so wild rough play isn't for him. He just wants to be part of a family and give them love & be cherished forever. He's healthy, up to date on all his vaccinations and totally house-trained. He's perfect & will be a wonderful member to the lucky family who adopts him. Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get lots more info on him.

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
