Charko's Story

Meet Charko!

This handsome boy is ready to be your ultimate adventure sidekick and is hoping to find his forever family. Charko is about a year and a half old (listed as 1 year and 7 months) and weighs around 65 pounds. He appears to be fully grown and is on the larger side without being oversized. Without a DNA test we cannot confirm his breed, but we suspect he may be some sort of Lab mix. With big, melt-your-heart brown eyes and a tail that’s always in motion, he’s ready to transition from “stray” to “soulmate.”

We don’t know much about his past, but he was found roaming the streets with another dog we suspect may be his sister. He has been living in a shelter environment since January and would love nothing more than a home to call his own. Life in a kennel hasn’t been easy, but Charko has remained gentle, hopeful, and eager to connect with people.

He has the perfect mix of youthful energy and sweetness. Charko loves to explore, play, and soak up affection. Like most young dogs, he will benefit from continued guidance with the basics such as house training, leash manners, and building confidence in new environments. The good news? The shelter reports that he is great on leash — which is a huge win for a young, playful guy — and he even “seems” to be potty trained. He is dog-friendly and loves every person he meets. Truly, he is the definition of happy-go-lucky. Whether he’s playing in the yard or greeting new friends, he does it with enthusiasm and a smile.

Charko hasn’t been tested with cats, so any potential cat placement would need to be carefully considered. He has had limited exposure to children, so we recommend older, respectful kids who understand boundaries, especially given his size and playful nature.

He will thrive in a home that offers structure, kindness, and plenty of activity. Regular potty breaks, daily exercise, and mental enrichment will help him grow into a confident and well-rounded adult dog. A fenced yard is preferred so he can safely run and explore, but apartments or condos may be considered for the right adopter who is fully committed to meeting his exercise needs.

Sadly, the shelter Charko is currently in is severely overcrowded, and wonderful dogs like him are at risk simply due to lack of space. We cannot pull him without a committed adopter. Charko deserves far more than a kennel — he deserves love, safety, adventure, and a lifetime of belly rubs.

Health:
Charko is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly preventatives. He is healthy and eager to start his new life.

Transport Information:
All of our dogs, including Charko, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to adopters once adoption is finalized. Transport is included in the adoption fee. Breed labels are educated guesses — we encourage families to focus on compatibility and lifelong commitment rather than breed alone.

MA License #479
