Charisma's Story

Charisma is the most lovely girl! She is such a happy go lucky pup who loves life and everyone she meets! Her tail was wagging the whole time and she was giving kisses! She was good on leash and definitely loves adventures! She has the most goofy smile & wiggly body! Her brindle markings are stunning, but her personality really takes the cake! She can't wait to find a forever home! She is good with other dogs!

When taken out by a volunteer we were told:

She is all action when she first leaves the kennels. She is quiet, and wiggly. Charisma is very treat motivated, she is eager to meet other dogs, and shy around men. She loves pets, cuddles, action, and very willingly allows for collar/leash adjustments, pets atop of her head and neck areas, and having her paws checked. She did not show signs of being "mouthy". Belly rubs while she stands on lead seemed to be well received by her.

9/27: When taken on a field trip we were told:

She was easy to load, allows to be picked up, and gently lifted into vehicles as well as lifted from the back seat of a sedan if this is necessary to do. While riding in the car Charisma stays within her hammock without signs of anxiety or stress. She enjoys looking out of the back seat windows, and if given the opportunity to do so, she enjoys a slightly cracked window for sniffing the breeze as she is chauffeured.

We visited PetSmart, Starbucks, a gas station , Kaddy Car Wash, and "Browns Ferry Park" in Tualatin. It was great to see Charisma in all of these various environments. She willingly met three separate men who are dog knowledgeable during her field trip today. While she was 'initially slow to say "hello" to them individually. After a brief sniff, she willingly walked on lead in a suburban neighborhood with myself and one adult male. Received all of the belly rubs, and "good girl" praise for sitting and staying within another man, and received her Pup Cup from a male server. Gold Star Charisma.

She walks on leash fairly well. She remains treat motivated.

Crunchy leaves, bushes do not stop her. She is continuing to discover all things that make up her environment. She was cautious with the vacuum noise cleaning the car, and she was on lead with me. She did not seemed bothered, nor try to bolt. Store flooring, hard surfaces inside and outside prove to be no problem. Sliding glass doors, or windows she will see her reflection and notice it. She is not vocal, nor excited by these.

Loves dog toys, will even retrieve for a bit. A very confident puppy for being so young.

12/2/2025
Sorry ahead of time for the long text!

I really loved Charisma and just wanted to send this note in case She is a very friendly girl and is very good with other dogs. She had no issues passing dogs on the sidewalk or even saying hello/passing on a smaller trail in the woods. She walked on leash next to my dog very well, even when I was walking them both by myself. She was great in general on a trail and did not show any signs of anxiety and walked politely. We met a friend and my friend walked her with no issue. She responded very well to training with treats. Within a day she was automatically sitting before I would open the door to go outside. She was also having accidents inside the first day, assuming anxiety related but also she was unsure where to go. By the next day she only had one accident inside and was already looking at me every time she would potty outside since I would give her treats for positive reinforcement. She did well in the car and would eventually settle down to nap. She did great with allowing me to touch her paws, ears, and teeth and would allow me to remove her food without issue. She was also easy to bathe with a handheld shower sprayer and I was able to do that as one person no problem. Overall a very sweet smart girl. When she is sleepy she is VERY cuddly. She still has some obedience and cues to learn but I felt very confident that she would be easy to train, especially as she continues to mature.

On walks she did show some minor nervousness but had no issue continuing to walk and would quickly move on. She showed the most concern at dogs barking on the other side of fences. She showed no nervousness at strange men on the sidewalk and was even sniffing legs as we walked past. However, she did not bond with my husband. For example, she would only go outside if I was with her, otherwise she would sit at the door and wait for me to come out. And she did show some hesitancy towards being cuddly/friendly with him depending on the circumstance. For instance, if she was sleepy laying on him was just fine but if she's playing and he tells her no firmly she would seem to get scared, I'm assuming the bigger body/deeper voice did make her somewhat nervous. I think over time and with more focused training from him, she would be fine. I would also say that on Friday she was quite high energy and kind of flying all over the place but after a night at our house and some exercise she calmed down and was much more chill (still getting the zoomies but being reasonable and able to be redirected if needed).
