Mode 1 is fantastic and smooth. Mode 2 is when one has to tug repeatedly to get her to walk instead of smelling a spot for too long. Mode 3 is when Chantilly is pulling you because there's another dog present. She's a sweetie who laid down for lovings, randomly sat on her own, then stayed for a while.
