Chanel's Story

Chanel is a smart, loving, 42 lbs, cattle dog mix. She was adopted from a high intake shelter as a puppy in 2023 and was recently returned due to a move. Chanel’s time was up and she was in line to be euthanized when her story caught our eye. So, she packed her bags and got the heck outta dodge.

Chanel is happy and friendly, gives kisses, loves food/treats, plays, gets the ‘zoomies’, LOVES to use her nose and sniff as much as possible (seriously…she could spend hours every day strolling along and smelling the world if anyone would walk her that long), enjoys humans and snuggles, naps and sleeps through the night, rides well in the car, and overall seems content.

However, we noticed that she moves and sits a little strangely. So, we did some investigating and found that Chanel, once again, drew the short straw. Chanel’s hind legs have a few structural abnormalities. After consulting with numerous veterinarians, we concluded Chanel is best supported through pain management (as it arises) and joint supplements. Her legs, while quite abnormal, are all she’s ever known, and they are not currently preventing her from enjoying her life. Chanel’s good attitude and resilience are inspiring, and she’s also otherwise healthy.

This girl doesn’t know she’s different and deserves a loving forever home just as all dogs do. Her adoptive family will need to commit to watching her weight and managing any pain symptoms as they arise to help her to lead as normal of a life as reasonably possible for as long as possible. There will come a day when her mobility/arthritis will impact her quality of life and she will need a peaceful send off over the bridge surrounded by the ones she holds dear. We can’t predict when that will be. In the meantime, this girl will remind everyone around her to live life to the fullest; we believe she has a strong purpose and will change many lives for the better. She just needs her human(s) to be open minded enough to come along with her for the ride! Chanel is good with most dogs and is well-behaved in a crate!

Chanel is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado.

*We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.*

You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/chanel/.

You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.
