Cayenne's Story

Cayenne
Update: Cayenne
is the only mama from the Rez (she had had puppies previously even though she did not turn up pregnant again as suspected) who has not turned around quickly after being caught. She's a hard one. Not aggressive but strong fear boundaries. She still cowers in fear but lets me touch her. I have not felt confident enough that she will not flee to widen her area to the smaller back yard attached to her pen. We are not making a lot of progress . She took food from my hand one day, but hasn't since. When I feed, she bounces and acts all excited but generally chooses to be outside when I am present. I leave her kennel door open and plant treats around so she will explore, but she grabs the treats and retreats to safety. I'm going to message a couple trainers that I'm acquainted with and ask for advice. Every time I think I'm going to bring her up with my pack and see how she would do functioning in the pack we get bad weather so it hasn't happened yet. I do have fear she will dig under a fence or climb.

I have a chihuahua who was so much like her when she arrived but has learned to function in our pack. It took her five years to learn to seek affection and show joy. 🥲 Cayenne
is a larger version of that. I didn't have to worry about the chihuahua escaping because of her size. Cayenne
is more outdoor savvy so I do. When I see her bouncing I hope she will turn a corner but her fear is so extreme. She's a beauty. We do keep a gps collar on her in case she ever were to escape, but not sure she would ever be caught again. She has fear of things being slipped over her head like the collar after spay and I tried to put a slip lead on her the other day and she freaks out the same way. I'm being very cautious not to ever push her beyond her fear so she snaps at me and it's rare, but those two things would have had I pursued so I think she was perhaps caught on a catch pole at some point in her life.

Adopt below!
https://linktr.ee/loveconnectiondogrescueaz?utm_source=qr_code
