Hi, I'm Cayde, a 63-pound Terrier mix with a goofy personality, a curious nose, and a charmingly quirky way of looking at the world. I can be a little hesitant when I encounter new people or unfamiliar situations, so I appreciate slow introductions and a family that lets me approach things at my own pace. I'm more of an independent guy and don't usually seek out constant attention, but I certainly don't mind a surprise drive-by butt scratch while I'm busy exploring! I love investigating every little scent around me, carefully sniffing every inch of my surroundings. Treats definitely help win me over, and while I'll occasionally give a toy a playful chase, I'm usually more interested in seeing what else there is to discover. What I really need is a patient home where I can settle in, decompress, and build trust without feeling rushed. A quieter, low-key environment would help me feel safe, as a busy home with lots of young children could be a little overwhelming for me at first. Once I start feeling comfortable, you'll get to see my playful side come to life with bursts of spunky energy and happy zoomies that are sure to make you smile. Beneath my independent nature is a sweet, adventurous companion who's just waiting for the right person to give me the time and understanding I need to truly blossom. My adoption fee of $225+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society. All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.

Humane Society of The Black Hills's Adoption Policy

The adoption process may take up to one hour to complete but we’ll keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. Here are the steps when you’re considering adopting a pet: - Visit our website to see available animals or see them on-site during regular hours, seven days a week. - When you find a dog, cat or small animal you would like to spend more time with, simply call the Humane Society of the Black Hills at (605) 394-4170 for an appointment. - Occasionally, our team is able to accommodate walk-ins, but as we cannot guarantee them, it is best to call for an appointment. -During your scheduled appointment, an adoption advisor will review the animal's history with you and bring the animal to meet you for an initial visit. - A second appointment may be made for you for a variety of reasons (Ex. You have a dog at home you'd like to bring in to meet the pet next). -Once you have met a pet that you think is your perfect match and you have been approved to adopt, your adoption advisor will take you through the adoption process, and you can take your new family member home!
