Cassie's Story

Meet Cassie

7 years old, female, Shih Tzu, 11 pounds, house trained (recent/will need support), crate trained, microchipped, vaccinated, spayed.

What a lovely, sweet little girl! Cassie was a puppy mill mom who came to us several weeks ago. At 11 pounds, she’s a small lady, and loves to be cuddled and coddled once she knows you... she’s been waiting all of her life for love, and can’t get enough of it now. At 7, she’s a great age – mature but not senior.

Cassie’s been a delight to foster; quiet as a mouse, she’s calm and lower energy, but loves her walks, and is also calm/great in the car. She will likely become more outgoing and a bit higher energy as she gets more comfortable with her new family. She’s a bit scared of new people walking straight at her, but has been quite brave about meeting people who let her come to them.

She’s crate trained and house trained but will need to be watched as she doesn’t know yet how to indicate that she needs to go – structure such as continued use of a crate, and specific times going out, will help her lock in her housetraining. She’s figuring out stairs – a work in progress, depending on the height of the stair! She was a scared girl (understandably) at first, but in only a few weeks has already dealt with those stairs plus leashes/collar, walks and car rides – and she does the cutest wiggle greeting when you see her in the morning – it’s truly joyous.

Cassie will be the perfect companion for family with older children, a single person, or a couple. Due to her size, we wouldn’t recommend her for toddlers or very young kids. She’s great with other dogs – easygoing and curious, but so far not playful. She does really well with her foster brother (lab, 5 times her size). Although we haven’t been able to test her with cats, she’s so calm we don’t have concern about cats in the house. She’s already a funny little thing - it will be amazing to watch her blossom!
