CASHEW's Story

03/21/26 14:00 Cashew is a sweet, gentle soul who finds the world to be an overwhelming and scary place. In his foster home he has been living with women, men, and cats. He has shown more fear towards men than women, but displays no aggressive behavior, and will allow handling from men he has gotten to know. He has been non-reactive to cats. Cashew has been in foster for a few weeks now after being extremely shut down in the shelter environment. He is still fearful of exploring and is content to lay on his bed and nap most of the day. He does have to be carried out the door to go to the bathroom, but once he gets outside has been pretty good about doing his business once he had acclimated to the yard. He has not had any accidents inside the house, except once when a loud noise really scared him (on his first day there). Cashew needs a bit of coaxing to cross the property line but once he does walks extremely well on leash during quieter times of the day (early morning and late night). He does okay on walks during the daytime and is non-reactive to other dogs he meets, but does get scared by louder traffic noises. He’s a very sweet boy who has, after a few weeks, started giving tail wags and kisses when his people come sit with him, he just needs a lot of patience to be allowed to bloom at his own pace. His fosters would adopt him, but he came in the shelter with a friend, Acorn, A1400542, who he was very bonded with. The foster can only have one dog but they think both Cashew and Acorn would be happier and more relaxed in a home together. Cashew has no trouble eating, loves whipped cream and lunch meat, and is in good shape for his age. He does eat stuffed toys so needs to be watched when given those. He would likely do well in a calm home with his pal, Acorn ?? 12/30/25 16:14 Needs rescue due to being severely shut down in the shelter. Dog came in with A1400542. They were abandoned in a room together. Sweet dogs, will allow lots of petting and handling, but very reluctant to leave their kennel. Dogs are kenneled together and need a quiet and calm environment. May be separated, but they are very bonded.
