Casey's Story

🐾Meet Casey🐾 Shepherd Iab mix? And yes, she’s every bit as special as she sounds.
KC arrived a couple of weeks ago after being found behind the shelter area at Roslyn Landing still wearing a chain. Despite efforts, no one has come forward for her, and we can’t imagine why this sweet girl was ever abandoned.
This girl is pure heart. She’s incredibly gentle on leash, easygoing, and carries herself with the kind of calm presence that makes you instantly relax around her. She leans in for affection like she’s giving out hugs on purpose, and when she looks at you, it’s with that quiet “please choose me” kind of hope that sticks with you.
She’s not high energy or chaotic — she’s well-mannered, steady, and just… easy to love.
That said, KC does have a little “escape artist” side. If left unattended in a fenced yard, she’ll look for a way out and isn’t above a little digging to make it happen. She’ll do best with supervision outdoors, a secure setup, and/or a family committed to leash walks and continued training.
Other than that, she’s been wonderful with other dogs. She hasn’t been cat tested yet, but we can update as soon as that’s done. She’s also already scheduled for her spay and rabies vaccination.
KC is estimated to be around a year old — still young, still full of promise, and ready to learn what it really means to be safe and loved.
She’s not asking for much… just someone who won’t leave her behind again

Colonial Heights Animal Services's Adoption Policy
If you are interested in adopting a pet from our shelter, the process begins with a visit to our shelter to meet the pet of your interest. After meeting the pet, if you decide that the pet is a good match for you and your family, you must then fill out an adoption application. The application must be filled out entirely. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Once you have completed and submitted your application, the application screening process usually takes 2-3 days to complete. Please note that we take multiple applications per pet. Each application is reviewed and the validity of all of the information listed by the applicant is verified. Our goal is place each pet with a forever home that best suits that particular pets needs, therefore we do not do first come first serve adoptions. If your application is the one chosen to adopt the pet, we will contact you and set up a time for you to come in and finalize the paperwork, pay the adoption fee, and pick up your new pet. There is no fee to fill out the adoption application. The fees for adoption are as follows: Female Dogs/Puppies - To be determined Male Dogs/Puppies - To be determined Female Cats/Kittens - To be determined Male Cats/Kittens - To be determined These fees cover the cost of having the pet spayed or neutered. ALL ANIMALS ADOPTED FROM COLONIAL HEIGHTS ANIMAL SHELTER MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
