Meet Carmen
Carmen is ready to find a fun “furever”home in Colorado. She spent the first three years of her life as a “breeder momma” in a Missouri puppymill. Carmen is a small, 13 pound, black and white parti colored schnauzer with the coolest piercing blue eyes, so we know that her puppies were very valuable. She probably had several litters of puppies taken from her when they were too young, and no vet care through her pregnancies and deliveries. Unlike most puppy mill survivors though, she is not terribly timid and fearful. She will allow herself to be picked up and held and seems to enjoy attention, petting and treats, but she doesn’t know what to do with toys yet. She is a little barky when there is a lot of activity around her.
Carmen came into rescue together with Claudia and they have lived together while in rescue. Carmen seems to take the lead in their interactions. Claudia follows Carmen when they go outside, when they eat and in their interactions with people and other dogs. While we don’t think that they are a bonded pair that has to be adopted together, if they aren’t adopted together, we do think that each of them should go to homes with another “normal” dog to teach them the ropes. We would like to see Carmen go into a home with a retired person or couple who can spend a lot of time with her, or someone who works from home. It would be best for them to be adopted by someone who has experience with puppymill dogs. They will need a securely fenced backyard.
Carmen is spayed, she is up to date on her vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. If you would like to meet Carmen (and maybe Claudia too!), go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the on-line adoption application. We suggest that you print a copy of the application before you hit the “submit” button, just in case! We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Carmen for a visit.
