Carmel's Story
Carmel

Just a few months ago, Mama arrived into rescue emaciated and scared, but bravely protective of her 6 tiny puppies. Since then she has blossomed into a healthy, beautiful dog with a velvety coat, sparkling eyes and a sweet, inquisitive demeanour. She is very smart and highly trainable, catching on quickly to routines and basic training. She is still unsure of sudden movements and being handled in new ways, but has adapted well with gentle guidance to accept handling such as grooming (even nail trims!) and the use of tools like harnesses, seat belt tether, jacket, cone, etc. She is learning about the joys of playing with toys and chewing on yummy treats. She does not enjoy being in a crate but has been working on learning to relax in one under predictable circumstances like bedtime and routine leaving of the house. She is not destructive and has not had any accidents in her foster home.
She tolerates the exuberant resident dog inside of the home and enjoys a pack walk, but is socially awkward and a bit forward and mouthy when it comes to playing off leash. So though she has exhibited no aggression, it may be best for her to be an only dog.
She likes to join you on the couch and as she learns to trust you, will lean in close for a cuddle. Will sound the alarm when people come in the house, but has been friendly with all of our guests after a tentative greeting. Young kids make her nervous, but when surrounded by a group of teenagers it was noted that “Dude, this dog is so chill.”

Mama is looking for a home like this:
-Gentle owner who can continue to nurture her & teach
-Only dog home
-Kids 13+
-Someone home often
