Carlito's Story
Meet Carlito! Carlito has come a long way since his transfer to us from the San Diego Humane Society.
He was shy, frightened, and emaciated, so we knew we would have to take an extremely gentle approach with this little guy.
Carlito is such a cutie! He has since completed his weight gain and is happy and healthy!
He has shown us how wild and silly he can be with his friends as they race around the play yards! While he can be a bit skittish at times, he allows us to give him gentle rubs, kisses, and will even close his eyes when we hit his favorite scritch spot: his chest and chin!

We highly recommend checking out Carlito's birthday post as it will elaborate on the behavioral considerations listed below:
https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02MgpVtUMYLWnz72nPMAt5PFAu8evecv9a4QFWDDVjeuceosSxsWYU6vgqXutNtDWpl

Behavioral considerations: Carlito is quite scared of the world outside of the rescue facility. He enjoys the known such as his routine and our staff. He will do best in a kind, gentle, patient, and quiet home that is understanding of his need to take new things slowly and at his pace.
Due to evading capture for quite some time prior to being caught by Humane Law Enforcement with a catchpole, Carlito is terrified of being harnessed, will alligator roll when he feels the resistance of a leash/lead, and will dart out of a door or escape route should the opportunity present itself. He also prefers not to be held as this feels constricting to him but will gladly hop onto a trusted person's lap for gentle snuggles. He is a street survivor after all, and his small stature means he had to be fast, agile, and smart to survive.
An escape-proof yard is a must for him to safely have fun, explore, and race around as he so loves to do! He's so fast!

Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.
