Captain Jack's Story

Name: Captain!

Breed: Black Lab (confirmed, from Mom) & Pittie Mix (assumed, from Dad)

4 years old, born May 1st, 2021.
He is at a healthy weight of 65 lbs. Shots are up to date until September 2025. Fixed and microchipped. Benefits from a weekly ear cleaning with Epiotic Advanced ear cleanser. He is not particularly thrilled to have his ears cleaned, but you can hold him to do it. This helps avoid the ear infections that are typical with his breed.

Personality/Temperament:
House trained. We did crate train him, however because of his energy he has done better simply baby-gated to the kitchen.
Familiar with commands: Go outside. Go inside. Sit. Wanna go for a walk? Go pee (when it is raining and needs encouragement to go!). Down (when he is too enthusiastic). Food! Wait (when he is prancing for his dinner dish).
Loves head rubs, any sort of attention. Will sit on your feet or lean against your legs, and be absolutely still for as long as you will rub his head and ears.
Can destroy a good chew toy, so we get him the heavy duty ones! (Seriously. Heavy duty.)
Loves walks and exploring.
With kids—he is comfortable with kids, most kids would be comfortable with him. Our daughter was 9 when we first adopted him, and he loves her. Captain often does not know his own size. As he has matured, he has gotten way better at obeying when told not to jump and/or to calm down. But he errs on the enthusiastic side, not the calm restrained side. Captain can do well with other dogs his size. He benefits from a deliberate introduction. He could probably do well with dogs in general, however he would need some better training.

Not really much of a barker when at home. He may bark quite energetically at other dogs on walks, but can be

We want to find him a home to ensure he continues to be well loved and healthy. He would do best in any sized house with a yard. He would likely not do well in an apartment unless his family was good at taking him for walks. Would do well with another dog his own size as long as they were introduced properly.

Captain Jack is a courtesy posting, located in Rochester NY.
