Cappy's Story
Cappy is currently in foster. This is what they have to say about this sweet boy!

Things Cappy Loves
- Treats and food – he is very food motivated
- Snuggling on the couch with his people and an electric blanket
- Running around the yard with his jolly ball on a rope hitting him in the head
- Meeting new people and getting pets – he gets upset when people don’t want to pet him
- Napping in a sunbeam
- Chewing on anything – bully sticks, etc., stuck in Kongs, keep him busy
- Destuffing all toys – he doesn’t actually eat much, if any, of the stuffing
- Car rides where he can stick his nose out the window

Training
- Cappy is very smart and will do nearly anything for a treat. He knows the words potty, poop, and cookie. We praise him with “Good poop/potty” after all bits of business, and he gets a cookie. He enjoys this and has responded very well. As a result, he can do these commands almost always on cue and quickly. He is efficient with his business.
- He has learned to sit and wait when the door opens, expecting a cookie to go outside. He also expects treats randomly on walks when he walks nicely. We often use kibble as treats, which he’s perfectly fine with.
- He knows sit, stay/wait, paw (the paw varies depending on which hand you give him, as he offers both paws), dance (he’ll jump up, so be aware), and left/right finish. We’re working on drop it/leave it and circle around the human. I’ve been using a clicker along with treats or kibble as praise. We mainly practice these tricks during breakfast and dinner when he’s hand-fed.
- After his last outside business trip, we get a few treats and head to the bedroom. He sleeps in an exercise pen with a slumber ball, and when told, “Kennel,” he eagerly jumps into the pen expecting his treats. Once he’s had his treats and is confined, he relaxes and lays down for the night. He does snore and has yipped/whined in his sleep, but overall, he sleeps very well through the night.
- He is a very quiet dog. I’ve considered putting a bell on him because he can sneak up behind you quickly. In his two months with us, I’ve only heard him alert bark twice. The first time he growled, I was very concerned he was upset, but he growls when he wants to play. So don’t be alarmed when you hear the growl; it’s a happy sound from him. As mentioned above, he can be a noisy sleeper, but that’s an endearing trait.

Cappy’s Ideal Family
- People who are retired, work from home, or leave the house for just short periods.
- A family that understands he is still a puppy, learning what to chew on and what isn't a toy.
- A family with lots of activities around the house and outside that he can join in. He’s a very curious and social dog and enjoys being part of household activities. Just following people around the house can really tire him out.
- A family that enjoys outdoor activities. Cappy likes sitting outside, watching the world go by. He enjoys chasing birds, bugs, and sniffing the breeze. He’d probably do well on short hikes, but I think he’d love being a camping dog and relaxing around a campfire.
