Canelo's Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

AdoptaGSD.org

Please consider that some of these dogs have been abandoned or ignored by their previous owners, having little interaction with someone who cares about them.

When adopted, they will need time to adjust to the changes in their life.

UPDATE from Canelo's new foster-

Canelo is a real sweetheart & a diamond in the rough, but worth it!

Canelo is more confident but still timid and shy. He's doing better meeting strangers but won't let them pet him. He'll come up to you and sniff your hand, will take treats, and will even lick your hand. But he doesn't like it when people reach out to pet him, and will back away. He's more like a cat than a dog!

Canelo is really sweet and likes to cuddle on the couch with me. He's a really good dog and needs an owner who will be extremely patient with him and to accept him as he is. He doesn't like to be hugged or restrained, but we're working on that. When he sits on the couch with me, I practice petting him from head to tail, using gentle pressure so he can learn that it's okay to be touched.

Canelo is housebroken, uses the dog door, sleeps through the night, and loves walks, hikes, rides in the car, and playing fetch. He doesn't like the crate and I've only crated him twice. He's terrified in there and tries to get out. Better to confine him to a room if needed while you're gone. I gave him the run of my house after the 2nd day and he was much more relaxed.

He'd do best with another dog in the house and no children.

Canelo is a playful but shy pup who startles easily and needs a calm, patient foster home. There are different estimates on his age, but all under a year. He eats in his crate due to some resource guarding, but he takes correction well from adult dogs and would really benefit from a confident, older dog to help show him the ropes.

He knows basic commands and just needs the right environment to continue to blossom. Adoption fee $200

Although we do our best to keep our adoptable animals page as current as possible, the animals you see may already be in an adoption process.
