Canelita's Story
Canelita is a beautiful girl with a soft heart and a gentle soul. While she can be fearful of new people at first, her transformation in her foster home has been truly amazing to watch. Once she trusts you, she has the most endearing ways of asking for affection; she’ll often come right up and stand on her foster mom’s leg for pets, or even climb up to stand on her foster mom while she’s laying down just to be close. At the end of the day, you can almost always find her curled up faithfully at your feet.

However, she must ask for affection on her own terms, she loves when her foster mom talks to her, sings to her but if her foster mom goes to do things NOT on Canelita's terms, she will run away scared. She would not do well in a loud or noisy household.

Because Canelita is a sensitive pup who is still learning that the world isn’t so scary, she has a few specific needs to help her thrive. She requires a securely fenced-in yard to keep her safe while she explores, and a peaceful, low-key home environment. Because of her shy nature, she needs a home with older dog savvy children (ages 8 and up) who can respect her space and move at her pace.

She is very social with other animals and currently lives happily with two cats. She does great with other pups, though she would best suit a home with another social, non-dominant resident dog who can help her feel at ease.

Her potential adopter should be willing to do more than one meet and greet at her foster home with their resident dog to help with Canelita's transition.

Canelita has been spayed, is up to date on her rabies & distemper, is microchipped, has had a negative fecal and heartworm test and is on a flea/tick & heartworm preventative schedule.

- Canelita's adoption fee is $400 + Minnesota sales tax
- You must fill out an adoption application before you are allowed to meet the animal. Please complete the adoption application located on our website: https://smalldogsminnesota.org/adoption-application/
- Small Dog Rescue of MN does not negotiate the adoption fee on our dogs and we must charge sales tax on all adoption fees in order to comply with Minnesota state law. Please note that SDR is philosophically opposed to the idea of buying and selling animals, and we support any future legislation that would remove sales tax from adoption fees. Until then, however, it must be charged.
- Please note that we do not have a shelter, and all dogs are in foster homes. Since we strive to provide the best possible care for our animals, sometimes we cannot answer emails promptly. Please allow 48 hours for us to respond to you.
- You must be 18 years of age to make an adoption request.
- A healthy pet is a happy pet!
