Canela's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.

If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.

Meet Canela!Canela (cinnamon in spanish) is a sweet baja mutt rescued from the streets of Ensenad, Mexico. She was rescued in August along with her pups and nursing. Of course we needed to wait until she had done nursing and then recover herself until she could become adoptable herself. As of November her pups have been adopted and Canela has now been spayed and vetted i San Diego. We had her boarding at the vet for almost a month while finishing her vetting and trying to find a foster with no luck so she is now back with her rescuers who are also fostering her in Ensenada. While she was in San Diego we dog and cat tested her and this is what we can say about her: Canela is already full grown in her 30s pounds. She is AMAZING with ALL humans, men, woman and children alike. She adores people and very social. She is good with dogs but will definetely not hesitate to defend herself and can be a little bratty towards some dogs, especially if they try to instigate her. She met and mingled with a couple of our rescue dogs like Goliath, Gia, Truffles, Frida, Roxy and Debby. All different age and sizes. She really enjoyed played with them and we are confident she is dog friendly not just with her pups but being in the streets for a while she probably is a little scrappy competing with other dogs for resources so she needs to make sure the dogs she meets are friends and not foes. Canela looks like a shepherd but is very petite and dainty paws. She is likely a huge super mutt with terrier in her DNA pool. She is fairly active probably as she lived in the streets and roamed a while to find food. She unfortunately has a keen love to 'explore' she can flear a 4ft fence with no problem, she is AGILE and fast. She somehow got out of our back yard which has a 6ft fence and we believe she scaled it being a wood fence, only smart dogs really get away with that BUT on the side of the fence with Vinyl she could not. Hence we are looking for an adopter or foster who has the right patio/yard for her to stay safe if applicants have an outdoor area. Her best matched adopter or foster would be someone looking for a friendly social dog towards people who is looking for a dog companion as a retiree or work from home as we fear she has some anxiety and looks to be with humans. She is also crate trained although can be a little whinny at the begining. In short this girl is pretty wonderful but has a couple needs when it comes to companionship and being alone as well as a very secured fence or have no out door areas. She did not seem interested at all around cats and enjoys dogs friendship. An adopter who is going to enroll in with a profesional dog trainer is best as she is intelligent, food driven and would be excellent agility dog as much as a couch potato as long as she has humans with her. Canela is a healthy spayed dog who was vetted in san diego and READY for adoption. We encourage you to meet her and perhaps inquire about our foster to adopt trials especially for this giirl to make sure her needs ei energy and houdini acts are not going to be a problem long term for her forever family. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application.
Dog Adoption Application
Cat Adoption Application

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application.
Military Questionnaire

Animal Rescuers Without Borders,Inc.'s Adoption Policy
The A.R.W.O.B. group prides itself on carefully placing animals into responsible and loving homes. We care about the present and future lives of the many unwanted dogs and cats and strive to improve them so they can come to know stability, love and safety. For more information, please visit our website at www.arwob.org. Our adoption procedure is as follows: 1) Adoption Application filed by applicant (visit the applications page to fill one out!). We typically adopt dogs and cats to individuals or families located in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles areas. However, we may consider potential adopters within California, Arizona, and Nevada (within a reasonable driving distance) under certain circumstances. We require that the application be approved ahead of time and a home check must be done via FaceTime Skype (we do not accept videos for this purpose). We would also require the potential adopter to come to San Diego to meet the animal in person and we recommend bringing any current pet(s) to see if they will get along. If the potential adopter opts out of the meet-n-greet with their existing animal(s) and if the new pet does not get along with their existing pets, we would require the adopter to drive back to San Diego to return the animal -- we cannot provide transportation. Our adoptions are time sensitive and our policy is that we do not place holds on any of our rescues. PLEASE NOTE: We have implemented a new policy for those who are currently serving in the military. IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application. 2) A play date between the applicant and rescue (dog or cat). An applicant MUST have an APPROVED online adoption application filed BEFORE scheduling a playdate at the animal's foster home. The playdate will ensure that the potential adopter and the dog/ cat they are interested in is the right match. If the dog/cat does not possess the qualities and behavioral traits the applicant is looking for, we can continue the adoption process by meeting another rescued dog or cat. You can also meet the animal you are interested in at scheduled adoption events. Approved applicants have priority to meet an animal over others. Please read the events page for more information about meeting an animal at an event and possibly taking them home afterward. 3) Home checks to ensure the safety of our rescues (If applicable). An ARWOB volunteer will contact you upon approval of your application (and the playdate appointment) to schedule a visit to your home. Here we will take a look at where the cat/dog will be living. Your home and yard must be safe and secure. 4) Adoption Contract and ID from applicant If everything checks out during the homecheck and we believe our rescued dog/ cat will live happily there, we will go ahead and sign the adoption contract to makes the adoption official. 5) Adoption fee Fees are different for both dogs and cats and are based on age and, sometimes, on the breed. Please visit the adoption fees page for a break down of all. 6) Denial of adoption applications We screen all of our adoption applications thoroughly in order to find the perfect home for our rescues. There may be times when we feel the adopter is not a good fit based on the answer to questions on their application. Please know that we vet each applicant with the animal's best interest in mind. In the event that your application is denied, you will receive an email letting you know of our decision. However, we will not be able to answer detailed questions regarding the denial.
