Cane's Story
Cane is an extremely sweet, loving, SMART, playful, active, and eager-to-please dog who truly just wants to be close to the people he trusts. He’s about a 1-2 year old doodle. He will be fully vetted prior to adoption.

Cane was found running down a paved trail with a collar and leash attached. We drove around for half an hour looking for someone who might have lost their dog, asking everyone on the trail if they saw anyone who was looking for a dog, and we couldn’t find anyone. We posted on several social media outlets to try and locate an owner, only to have someone who made a claim to owning him him say that he got away from them on a jog, that they couldn’t handle him anymore, and that we can keep him. We continued the search just in case that wasn’t his rightful owner and were not able to locate anyone else who could prove ownership of him. Based on everything we’ve been able to piece together, we believe he was dumped.

Cane loves other dogs and loves to PLAY. He would do very well with another active dog about his size, who is okay with rough-style play. He would benefit from having a fenced in yard to run in, an active home, and with a family who loves to spend lots of time with him. He initially gets nervous around strangers, but he warms up VERY quickly once he realizes he’s safe. This is something we expect to improve as he builds confidence through training with a loving and supportive home.

Cane will benefit most from having someone teach him basic obedience as he jumps on people, pulls on the leash, and overall struggles with self-confidence. All of this will improve with training. He is potty trained and knows "sit", and we have taught him the “kennel” command. He is wicked smart and will pick up on things very quickly, and we truly believe he has so much potential. Due to his lack of confidence and training, and very high energy personality, he has shown to struggle with anxiety. This should improve with training and regular attention with exercise, but he may benefit from some veterinary behavioral medication support in the future. If that ends up being the case for Cane's future, medication for anxiety is generally affordable. He really just needs someone who can focus on him and help him feel safe and secure, and he will be a perfect boy!

Overall, Cane will need a home who can work with him, give him snuggles, love, LOTS of energy outlets, and someone he can call his best friend. He is incredibly loyal and will bond with his people. We truly believe with the right person, he will really thrive. He’s the kind of dog who is just waiting for someone patient and steady to show him that he doesn’t have to worry. With love, consistency, and a little training, Cane is ready to fall in love with you!

Adoption Fee: $400

Apply to Adopt Here: https://betterlifepets.com/adoption-application
