Camper (Courtesy Post)'s Story

Meet Camper!
Male, Blue Heeler mix, 5 years old

Camper is a loyal, affectionate, adventure-loving guy looking for either a temporary foster home (6-12 months) or a forever family. If you foster Camper temporarily, his mom's parents and godmother all live in the Seattle area and are happy to help with pet sitting if you ever need to travel.

His mom is following her lifelong dream of moving to New York City, but the truth is...Camper just isn't a city dog. He thrives with room to roam, time off leash, and a life that's closer to nature than busy sidewalks. He absolutely loves being near water, exploring trails, and spending his days outside.

Camper would be happiest with someone who:
- Lives somewhere with easy access to trails, woods, or open space.
- Has another friendly dog, kids, or an active household.
- Wants a loyal companion for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, skiing, or everyday adventures.
- Understands that he needs both physical exercise and mental enrichment.

Camper isn't the type of dog who's happiest staying inside all day with a couple of walks around the block. Give him a job, an adventure, or a game, and he truly shines.

A Few Things Camper Loves:
- Car rides (he's an excellent passenger!)
- Other dogs—he loves having canine friends and playmates.
- People of all ages, including babies and kids.
- Brewery patios, coffee shops, and hanging out wherever you are.
- Chasing rocks in shallow water (he doesn't really swim—he just splashes!)
- Lying in the sunshine.
- Playing "Search." Hide an object, and he'll happily sniff it out. He'd probably make a fantastic search-and-rescue dog.

More About Camper:
- He's never bitten a person or another dog.
- Sometimes he "herds" by gently nibbling or pretending to nip—it's part of his Heeler instincts, not aggression.
- He hasn't lived with cats, but he's stayed in homes with them successfully. He'd likely just need a slow introduction.
- He loves to cuddle but also enjoys having his own bed.
- He's smart, eager to learn, and happiest when he has something to do.

About Camper's Anxiety:
Like many Heelers, Camper has some anxiety, and it became much more noticeable after moving from Roslyn to Seattle. Big transitions can be difficult for him, and he currently takes a daily anti-anxiety medication that helps him feel much more comfortable.

When he's overwhelmed, Camper may hesitate to get out of the car or refuse a walk for a bit. New environments and new people can take him some time to adjust to. Once he settles in, though, he's an incredibly devoted companion. He's looking for someone patient who won't be discouraged if he needs a little extra time to build confidence. Having other dogs around often helps him feel more comfortable.

Camper isn't looking for a perfect home, just the right one. If you're looking for a loyal sidekick who will happily follow you into the woods, curl up beside you afterward, and make every adventure a little more fun, Camper might be your guy.

If you would like to know more about Camper and get connected with his people for a meet and greet, please reach out to APS-FH at shelter@apsfh.com for more information or call (360) 378-2158. Or you can fill out an Adoption Application from our website here:

www.apsfh.com/adoption-program/canine-application

**This pet is not at the shelter.
