Camilo (CP)'s Story

***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico***

Hi, I'm Camilo

You might notice right away: I'm not your typical dog. Nope! I'm a rolling ray of sunshine with wheels for legs and a heart that never quits!

When I was found, I was lying in the mud outside a house — cold, soaked from the rain , and unable to move my back legs. No one knew how I got there. Maybe I was hit by a car, or maybe someone I trusted left me behind . No one came looking for me. But even then, I still wagged my tail.

A kind local family gave me a quiet space to heal, and that small act of kindness changed my whole life. Soon, the amazing team at Surfers for Strays and their remote vet, Dr. Sheddy, stepped in to help. With their support, I got my very first wheelchair! The moment they put me in it, I took off running, playing, and smiling full of gratitude!

Since then, I've received three stem cell treatments from a kind vet who offered his services for free, because he likes me , and physiotherapy with the volunteers of the organization, who drive out 2-3 times a week to get me to the beach. I'm celebrating small successes from time to time. Like when I stand up on my own, wobbly but still standing . The vet says it could be a possibility for me to one day walk again! When I'm not in my wheels, I scoot around on my bum — fast, determined, like I've got somewhere to be. ‍

Right now, I live in a small corral. It's safe, but it's not a life full of love and connection, as there are no other dogs nor people during the day. I know I'm meant for more! People visiting me is the biggest joy of my day! I adore humans and I'm always ready with tail wags, aggressive cuddles, and a big goofy smile. I'd thrive in a home where I'm not just surviving, but truly living.

I get excited around other dogs and want to play, but I do best with calm, confident friends and slow introductions. I'm sweet, social, and happiest when I'm part of the action.

Because of my paralysis, I dont have control over my pee and poo. You can express my bladder manually but it's not that simple with number two. If you monitor me well and I have a regular feeding schedule, you'll know at what time of the day I'll be ready! I am used to wearing diapers as well, like when I am in the car or at the vet. It would work for me too, to live in diapers, they just need to be changed regularly to avoid any irritations or infections. I need someone patient and loving who's willing to learn with me .

I know I move differently, but I don't feel broken. I feel like a super doggo! I've been through more than most dogs will in a lifetime, and I've never once given up. Every single day, I choose happiness — and I have so much love left to give.

If you're looking for a dog who'll inspire you, make you laugh, and love you with his whole heart... I've been waiting for you!

Love,
Your Camilo

If you are interested in FOSTERING, click on the Foster Button and fill out the online Foster Application
If you are interested in ADOPTING, click on the Adopt Button and fill out the online Adoption Application
Check out our VOLUNTEER Opportunities here https://www.surfersforstrays.org/get-involved
DONATE - Check out the many ways to donate here https://www.surfersforstrays.org/donate

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
