Caliman's Story

You want a dog, and you have always been attracted to the good looks and reported loyalty of the hunting breeds, but you’ve heard that they are high energy, need lots of exercise, etc. Well, we have a dog for you! Caliman, whose owner was not able to take care of him, is a rarity among sporting dogs:mellow, laid back, easy-going for sure, and his favorite pastime is.....napping. Preferably on your lap, head on your chest. This beautiful 2-year-old
Brit/Lab Blend has all the sweet temperament that embodies both breeds, but he has a slow, deliberate pace. Named for the Mexican comic book superhero Kaliman, this very handsome boy enjoys hanging with people. He has engaged in some play with the other dogs in foster, but seems indifferent to them most of the time. He eats easily, but not greedily, already knows to go to his crate at bedtime, (though he would rather sprawl on the floor or the couch) and seems to need
to potty only when you remind him. He loves the car, was a complete gentleman at the vet (who pronounced him in beautiful condition) and barks very little. If cajoled, he will “talk” to you or “sing along” in a deep, rich baritone, especially if he has just greeted you at the door. His occasional enthusiasm and size might make him a bit overwhelming for toddlers, but his calm manner would make him a great companion for somewhat older children. He is not above using his size to his advantage if he wants something though he does respond to most corrections. After a week in foster, he has started to demonstrate a bit of a sense of humor, which some lucky owner will get to develop. And his beautiful liver and white short haired coat is back to being soft and glossy. Caliman is also fine with cats. What a good boy!

He has been recently neutered, is UTD on shots and HW and eager to find his forever place in the world. If you are looking for a loyal, friendly companion, he could be the dog for you.If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application at the New England Brittany Rescue website, www.nebrittanyrescue.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
