Cain (Project Homebound)'s Story
Why Choose Me?
Cain is currently at Project Homebound and he's about to graduate! The Project Homebound Dog Training Program is a partnership between ACC Animal Services, ACC Department of Corrections, and Athenspets. Dogs from ACCAS are brought to live in a specialized enclosure on Corrections property. There, they are trained and socialized by pairs of Returning Citizens with supervision from the program's professional dog trainer.

Update: Cain is a great dog to chill with-especially in the shade on such a hot day. I know he likes being in a kiddie pool, so I filled the pool in case he decided to take a dip, but instead, he just wanted to hang out with me. He stretched out next to where I was sitting and enjoyed watching all that was going on. He gave me good sits for treats and lit up when I praised him. He's an easy dog-easy to walk on a leash, easy to be with, and easy to love. He's a sweet, calm buddy ready to find a forever best friend.

Update 6/16/25: Cain is a 6-year-old sweetheart with a mellow heart and a loyal spirit. Around 50 pounds of pure love, he’s the kind of dog everyone falls in love with. He walks beautifully on a leash, wags at every friendly face, loves his kiddie pool, and is totally unbothered by the chaos around him! Cain has even been dog tested, and did great with the dogs he’s met.

Don’t be fooled by his calm temperament, Cain still enjoys playtime and will flash that signature happy grin when he sees treats or toys. He’s neutered, vaccinated, and more than ready to trade his kennel for a couch.

Cain has been overlooked for too long, but we know his perfect match is out there. Until then, Cain would love a temporary, safe, and loving home.

Cain (aka Luther) is a handsome, happy-go-lucky fellow who enjoyed entertaining himself in the interaction pen. He came to me for a few treats and was friendly and polite. When I told him it was time to go, he met me at the gate and waited to be leashed. Other dogs barked at him as we passed their kennel gates, but Cain just brushed it off. Later, whenever I passed his kennel, he'd wag his tail and smile. He seems to be a friendly, easy-going boy.

You can read more about this dog and check out additional photos here: https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs

The adoption fees, shelter schedule, a description of the rescue and adoption process, and a list of included vetting can be found at https://athenspets.net/adoption-rescue-process.

This dog is available for adoption through Athens-Clarke County Animal Services, located at 125 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA.
