Butters's Story
Butters is a 4 year old male neutered shepherd mix. He spent the first year of his life in a desert hoarding encampment in a cage and was picked up by animal control with 75 other dogs in the Winchester hoarding case. After spending some time in the shelter he was abandoned in boarding for 2 years by a previous, "rescue." This sweet and shy boy can be slow to warm up at times but once he does is truly a giant puppy. Given his chaotic upbringing his slow and shy demeanor in the beginning is extremely understandable. He loves to chase the ball around, splash around in the pool, and get all the butt scratches in the world. Ball truly is the key to his heart and you can find him chasing and bouncing around at the sight of one. In water he always starts with very slow and gentle paddles before spinning in circles and slashing around. With his shy demeanor his primary focus in training has been confidence building. He's done a lot better with being approached by new people and isn't as fearful trying to hide run like before. He's much more interactive and enjoys hanging out. He likes squeaky toys and other toys of the assorts. He usually starts by booping his nose on them and makes attempts at making them squeak before tossing them in the air. He's truly started to blossom and is eager to interact with other dogs and is becoming more comfortable with new people every day. He would do best with a patient owner in an active household with other high energy dogs. He needs to be trained and given time and patience entering any new household. He will be needing to be crate and potty trained but we know with the right love and support he cant do anything but thrive.
