Buttercup's Story
Buttercup is a 10 month old puppy with a soft heart and a gentle spirit. Weighing just about 33 pounds, she is petite and likely will not get much bigger.

Buttercup came to us from a backyard situation where she did not receive much socialization or experience with the outside world. Because of that, the shelter environment has been overwhelming for her. The noise, new people, and unfamiliar routines can be scary.

Despite her fear, Buttercup is not reactive or aggressive. She is simply unsure. With patience and kindness, we are already seeing small but meaningful progress. She wants to trust. She just needs someone willing to move at her pace.

Buttercup has lived with other dogs and truly takes confidence from them. A calm, well adjusted canine companion would likely help her blossom more quickly. She watches other dogs for cues and relaxes when she sees them feeling safe.

She has not had much leash experience yet, so that will be something her adopter continues to work on gently and positively. She will thrive in a home that understands shy dogs and is committed to building confidence through structure, routine, and reassurance.

Buttercup may not be the puppy who runs up to greet you right away. But she is the kind who will form a deep, lasting bond once she feels secure. There is something incredibly special about earning the trust of a shy dog and watching them come into their own.

If you have a calm home, a patient heart, and the willingness to help a young dog grow, Buttercup could become the most loyal companion you’ve ever known.

To learn more or schedule a meet and greet, please email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com with “Buttercup” in the subject line.
