Butch's Story

Hi, my name is Butch. I'm a handsome male shepherd mix born in February of 2024. I'll only be adopted to a home in Hanover County, VA, Richmond Metro area, or counties adjacent to Hanover.

I'm a young, intelligent, high energy kind of guy who loves to be on the move. I'm super well-behaved on leash and I love to go on walks and jogs - the longer, the better. I'm affectionate, loving, and appropriate with people, but I have a very dominant nature with other dogs. With my probable combination of herding breeds and dominance, I tend to react to other dogs getting in my space. I am able to walk on leash with other dogs around me with no problems, but I shouldn't go into dog parks or places that an unleashed dog can approach me. I've been responding well to desensitization training with other dogs, so with some consistent training from a patient owner, who knows...? I'm not a good fit for an apartment/condo or townhouse with a small or no yard. I need space to run and someone to keep me stimulated both mentally and physically. My space will need to have a TALL fence, as I'm a prolific jumper. Agility dog training, anyone? Take a chance on me and you'll be rewarded with a best buddy for life!

If you want to meet me, go to the Hanover Humane Society website:

https://www.hanoverhumanesociety.org/adoptions/adoption-application/

and complete the no-obligation on-line application. You will be contacted to schedule an appointment to meet me.
