Bugsy's Story

Meet Bugsy!

Bugsy's story began with quite the scene she didn't mean to cause. It was a cool afternoon when she flopped into a pile of crunchy leaves in the middle of a neighborhood. Her belly was warm, her ears were flopped just right, and the world was finally quiet. People had reported seeing her wandering for over 3 weeks—no collar, no home, no one calling her name.

So, when she found that perfect patch of leaves piled up like a down comforter, she decided to take a nap in the sun. She was so still, she looked lifeless. Some good samaritans saw her and thought she was gone, that her time on the streets finally caught up to her. They called a rescue team to remove her body, but Bugsy, ever the dramatic soul, lifted her head slowly and gave a lazy tail thump. Not dead. Just sunbathing. After that scare, she was scooped up and taken to the Indianapolis shelter. Soon after a foster stepped up to break her free.

Bugsy is five years old and shares her name, and her ears, with “Bugsy Maroon”, a giant white rabbit from an 80's era computer game. He wanted to be Public Enemy No. 1. She just wants to be someone's No. 1 cuddle buddy. After a life of being used for breeding, all Bugsy wants now is love, affection, and attention. If you're not giving her attention, she'll swipe whatever you're using and dash off just to make sure you follow her. She was mouthy at first—excited, wild, lacking proper manners. But she has learned sit, shake, lay down, and comes when called. She even learned that the cat is not, in fact, a chew toy. She walks beautifully on a leash and is crate-trained.

She adores kids of all ages, though she can get a bit too excited around them sometimes, but is learning. But her true superpower is making you smile and laugh until your face aches—in the best way possible. Bugsy is just a true lovebug. Every night, she dreams of a loving home that will be hers forever. Not a street. Not a pile of leaves. Could you be her forever home?
