Meet Bugs
???Special Needs Gremlin Looking for that Special Someone??
Were you social distancing since before it was cool? Our longest resident and biggest goober is looking for his very own, very special person.
Bugs has been blossoming in his foster home. We’ve learned a lot about his personality and preferences. For example, his favorite snack is butter lettuce. We aren’t kidding. We guess he’s just all about California cuisine?
In foster care, he’s been a fantastic “coworker” and a hit in Zoom meetings...sort of. He often closes the laptop screen rather than closing the deal. Important meeting? Bugs won’t bother you. He’ll just sleep on your keyboard and snore louder than anyone you’ve ever met. People will notice. They will comment. It will derail the meeting. It will also be the funniest thing to happen all week.
Bugs loves hard, but not immediately. He takes a little time to settle in and show his true self. Once you're on his team, he’ll have you giggling every chance he gets. He dances when you bring him dinner and always knows where his favorite toys are.
So, the long and short of his special needs is that he has what’s referred to as stranger avoidance or reactivity. Bugs had a rough start, so we get it. Think about reactivity like social anxiety: it makes you say and do things that make other people uncomfortable. For that reason, we cannot place him in a high-traffic environment or a home with kids under 14.
Bugs’ case is the pilot case in a behavioral intervention program that Underdog is building in partnership with Bugs’ foster mom, Laura and our professional training partner, Alyssa Vincent of Blueprints Dog Training. Through this program, we can better serve dogs who are returned for more severe behavioral issues. We are not only looking for the perfect home for Bugs, but also seeking your donations so that we can continue to build this program and support his care.
We know that his perfect situation is out there, even if he isn't a one-size-fits-all dog. Training and time help improve his adoption odds and we are willing to do whatever it takes, for however long he needs.
All of our dogs our are in foster homes. You must submit an application in order to set up a meet. We will contact you to chat more about the dog and make sure they're a good fit:
