Buddy Jr.'s Story

**NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE** ... We are so busy with rescuing and caring for animals and can't return everyone's calls. MANY of your questions can be answered by reading all the info below. If you are interested in adopting BUDDY JR ... You must fill out the adoption application that can be found in the More About Us section to the right of this section … OR you can cut and paste this link into your browser: http://www.marlcares.org/adopt_app-dog.php

PLEASE READ all the following info about BUDDY JR We do not reply to inquiries asking if the dog is still available, if it is listed here, then it is still available.

BUDDY JR Needs A New Home! His whole world just turned upside down, and he needs a patient person to help him adjust to this new big scarey life change. Buddy Jr was returned to us in Feb 2025. He was adopted from us 7 years ago, in November 2018, when he was approx 9 months to 1 yr old and has been a very loved and spoiled pet since. There were no children in the home when he was adopted, and now there are 2 toddlers in the home, and they were just too much for him. There is alot of activity now and they make him nervous and scared, and he snaps at them. He is miserable living with all the activity and chaos that 2 loud toddlers now bring to his life. They have been keeping them separate the past 5 years and trying everything to make it work, but the kids are getting older and it is just too hard to try to keep them all separate or supervised at all times and everyone get what they need. This was a very hard decision for his family.

Buddy Jr is so very sweet but shy and timid when meeting new people. He has a typical chihuahua personality. Once he gets to know you, he is all about being a lap baby all day long. He loves to sleep right next to you in the bed and loves to be right with you all the time. He is always ready to go for a ride in the car too. He is intimidated by new dogs at first, but as soon as he knows they won't hurt him, he is fine. He is in a foster home with dogs all sizes, but prefers dogs his size. He loves to be held. He likes to lay in a little dog bed on his foster mom's desk while she works.

A calm household would be perfect for him. He did live with a calm medium sized dog in past. We just can't say the word "sweet" enough times to describe this handsome boy. If you are looking for a very sweet and affectionate lap dog that will worship you and be your constant companion...this is the one.

He is a long haired chihuahua, 8 yrs old as of Feb 12, 2025, and approx 9 lbs. Buddy is neutered, current on vaccines and heartworm prevention, heartworm negative, microchipped, kennel trained, and housebroken, walks on a leash, and always rode in his mom's lap on car rides. A fenced in yard is required for Buddy Jr.

ADOPTION APPLICATION: To be considered for BUDDY JR, you must fill out the Adoption Application … Filling this out does not obligate you in any way. It is up to the foster home, how far they are willing to drive. We rarely adopt long distance, but will consider each and every application. It depends on the dog, the applicant, what works for one dog, may not be ideal for another.

WHY WE ASK FOR NO PHONE CALLS: Rescue is a full time job every day. Please know because we are so very busy with the dogs along with processing applications, updating webpage’s, rescuing, in many vet appointments, caring for seniors and hospice dogs, etc, etc that we are not able to return phone calls or emails asking if this dog is still adoptable, how much is it to adopt, is it house trained etc … We have included all the info we have on this dog at this current time and update the bio as we learn more about them. We kennel train all the dogs and will indicate if there are housebreaking issues that we have discovered. We update our site regularly so if the dog is listed here they are in fact adoptable, but may have applications coming in on them, so if you are interested, you need to get your application in now.

ABOUT US: MidSouth Animal Rescue League is an all breed, 501c3, non-profit organization that prefer to rescue senior dogs and special cases. WE LOVE ROTTWEILERS ... With over 20 years of experience with our beloved ROTTWEILER breed, and little help for this breed in our area, we try to focus on rescuing them and try not to ever have to turn any away that need us … especially the seniors that end up in shelters. Currently, we have several senior dogs, cats, and rottweilers in our hospice foster program. We always need more fosters so that we never have to say NO to them or other seniors.

We have also started a community relief effort specifically in the Red Banks, MS area not far from us, called The Dog House Project, where we go door to door providing dog houses to dogs on chains and other dogs and cats without proper shelter, including straw in cold temps, as well as food and other supplies as needed. We offer free spay/neuter services to those animals and continue to check on them. To date many have been spayed and neutered and some have been surrendered from their neglected lives on chains. We are making a difference and desperately need your donations to continue this program. We are always in need of igloo type dog houses to continue to provide life saving shelter to these dogs, otherwise they will never get them.

MidSouth Animal Rescue League relies on the kindness, generosity, and financial support of people like you so that we can continue to rescue and care for dogs like this one. We are a group of dedicated volunteers who respond to animals in need in shelters, strays, and from individuals. We receive no federal or state funds and are supported solely by private donations.

Many of the animals we save are in need of special medical care or surgery to bring them back to health before they can be placed. Veterinary care, vaccinations, tests, x-rays, medications, spay and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea/tick prevention, worming, food, kennels, grooming, and other supplies are provided for each dog while in our care.

MidSouth Animal Rescue League's Adoption Policy
Thousands of pets die each year because irresponsible owners neglect them, let them breed or just decide they no longer want their pets. Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment. Our adoption program is designed to ensure the placement of our pets into permanent, responsible homes. Our adoption & screening process is very thorough. We make every effort possible to correctly match pet & human so as not to subject the pet to further rejection or abandonment. We are looking for homes that understand that adopting a pet is a 10 to 15 year commitment to love & care for this homeless pet’s needs. We do not allow meetings with any of our dogs until we have your application. Potential adopters must complete an application & phone interview with the foster, & a home visit. Fenced in yards are almost always required, there are exceptions, but it is rare. Applications are an important aid in helping both the adoptor & rescue group make the best decision in knowing what pet will fit the adoptor’s expectations & lifestyle. The application is as much a great service & tool for the adoptor as it is for us, so please consider this as you answer the questions. Our adoption fee is $150.00 to $250 for dogs and puppies unless noted otherwise. All pets have had shots, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing & are current on heartworm prevention, & are microchipped. If the dog is too young for surgery it will be scheduled by us at our vet when age appropriate & specified in the adoption contract. All dogs are kept in foster homes, inside, & are kennel trained. Adopting a new family member should involve a well-thought out & deliberate process. This is not an impulse purchase. Please understand that we do not want these pets to be homeless again. We try to complete the process as quickly as possible & will appreciate & consider each application. **NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE** It is almost impossible to return everyone's calls & emails. Voicemail fills up several times a day & the emails are endless. We are so busy rescuing & caring for pets in our care & want to give our time to those pets & to adoptors who have taken the time to complete the application. Due to the overwhelming inquiries we receive for help, we do miss some emails & we are very sorry if we miss responding to you & assure you it is an oversight & not intentional. Some days we get 50 emails just asking us if a dog is available, if it is housebroken & how much it is to adopt. This is very frustrating for us because we maintain a current website & all pertinent info for adoption & the pet is right there. Inquiries asking if a dog is available, how much the fee is, etc, consumes alot of our time that could be used in responding to local applicants. Most questions you have can be answered by reading our site. We do sincerely apologize for not being able to get to everyone & are sorry for any inconvenience we cause you. We know how excited & anxious you are to adopt your new pet. We know it is hard to understand why the adoption process is so lengthy & may seem cumbersome to you. We know it is hard to understand why it can take awhile to get your call returned or your application processed immediately & we apologize for the inconvenience. We ask that you be patient & understand that we are volunteers receiving more requests, calls, applications, & emails than we can possibly return in a day. We ask that you remember that we are gone most of the day rescuing pets from shelters, taking them to the vet, doing home visits, processing applications, checking references & the list goes on. One sick rescue can throw us off schedule. Please remember that we have families & pets that sometimes get sick & need our time as well. We receive many applicants for the same dog. In this case, we try to make the best possible match based on the info we have gotten during the application process. We PREFER to adopt in the Mid-South AREA, usually no more than 1-2 hours away in driving distance. We rarely adopt long distance, but will consider each & every application. **WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY ADOPTION. Our first concern is the happiness & welfare of the pet.
