Buddy - (Jackson) 's Story
Buddy is a 5-7 year old Beagle mix who was rescued from a shelter in rural Mississippi. He was originally surrendered by his owner who was moving and could not take him with them. Buddy is an incredible dog. He is infinitely calm and very quiet. His ideal day is spent sniffing around your yard, helping you garden, then sleeping with his head on your knee on the couch. He will likely not be your next hiking companion (he is a slow, easy walker) but he does love to watch TV in the air conditioning. He does great with other dogs, large and small, female and male. He has met many young children as young as 2 and been nothing but infinitely kind and gentle. He is housetrained. He is also crate trained but we are hoping to find him a family that won't leave him in a crate for long hours since he is such a companion oriented dog. He would be great for any home - he can live with an older person who just wants a calm companion or a young couple looking for an easygoing guy.

Buddy is neutered, microchipped, up to date with vaccinations and tested negative for heartworms. We did have a veterinarian look directly at his blood under a microscope and they did see some microfilaria (baby heartworms) so he will need to be kept on heartworm prevention for the next 6 months to make sure they do not grow into adult heartworms (heartworm prevention kills microfilaria). He had a mass removed off his hind end which was sent off and benign. His tail was broken at some point in his life, however, it is healed now and does not bother him at all - it is just a bit crooked.

His adoption fee is $150 to cover his transport fee up north. Transport leaves Friday June 30th or July 14th. He is currently near Jackson, MS and can be transported to a variety of locations including Wytheville VA, Hagerstown MD, Harrisburg PA, Allentown PA, Parsippany Troy Hills NJ, Albany NY, Brattleboro VT, Enfield CT and Newtown CT.

If you are interested in adopting Buddy please reach out to me at ehirtle@bestfriends.org and fill out our application at this link:

https://forms.gle/4mrdU6eVkdgLc6oGA
