Buddy's Story

Meet Buddy! This most gentle giant holds a special place in our rescue. Buddy is about six years old and was 70lbs when he arrived several months ago but is now 60lbs and almost at his goal weight due to his new healthy lifestyle. He comes from Texas, where he was surrendered to a shelter after his owner died of obesity related causes, which unfortunately also resulted in some weight issues for Buddy. He is the *sweetest* soul and is doing well on his weight loss journey in foster care. Buddy will be a wonderful companion to whoever adopts him.<br/><br/>His foster says:<br/><br/>"Buddy is a very special, happy guy who is a complete sweetheart. When he first came to New York, he was severely overweight and had trouble walking, but after a few months on a new diet and with regular exercise he is a brand new dog. <br/><br/>Buddy loves people and loves attention - sometimes when he really wants pets he will bark at you, but it's a friendly, happy bark! He is learning how to play, probably for the first time in a long time. He loves every new human he meets and he likes to stop to meet new people on walks. He is also very dog friendly! <br/><br/>Buddy probably didn't have the best life growing up but he has shown amazing progress in New York and is a true inspiration. We have grown very attached to him and love him very much! Buddy would be great as a solo dog, or with other dogs in the house. He's a couch potato, and also is 100% housebroken - not a single accident in the six weeks he's been with us. He would be a great apartment dog! <br/><br/>Buddy is best suited for a home without little kids (ten and under) as he is not a huge fan of their chaotic energy. Buddy has also been diagnosed with Cushing's, but his symptoms have abated a lot and he is responding really well to a daily supplement. It's time for Buddy to find his forever home so he can truly bask in the love of his new owners!"<br/><br/>INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?<br/>To adopt Buddy, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.<br/><br/>PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET.<br/><br/>Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!

True North Pet Rescue Mission's Adoption Policy
First Step: Submit Your Application True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing. We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for. For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following. Second Step: Application Review & Approval 1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. 2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets. 3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email. Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster! Adoption Fees: Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city. We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.
