BUDDY's Story
BUDDY’S WORLD JUST CRUMBLED, BUT HE’S READY TO PICK UP THE PIECES

Buddy’s world changed suddenly this past November when his owner passed away. Around the same time, his human sister and best friend had to move into a residence where Buddy could not follow. Since then he has been cared for by family and a rotation of sitters until Gerdy’s stepped in. He is a sensitive dog who is still finding his footing and would benefit from settling into a stable, committed home as soon as possible.

Buddy is a 4 year old Maltese mix weighing about 15 pounds. He is friendly, affectionate, and generally a happy little dog, though understandably a bit disoriented by all the recent changes. He is highly food motivated and warms up quickly to new people, especially if treats are involved. Buddy is energetic, enjoys his walks and moves at a brisk pace, making him a great companion for someone who likes to stay active.

He is eager to get into the car but can whimper on short rides with frequent stops. At home, Buddy gets occasional bursts of zoomies and may playfully tug at clothing to invite interaction. He has a crate with the door left open and will use it to relax, though when left alone he tends to start off whining before settling into his bed outside the crate. He can be left alone for a few hours, but he does best in a busy household or with someone who works from home. Another calm dog in the home would be a bonus.

Buddy does have a few areas where he needs understanding and management. If startled or caught off guard, he may air snap, he is highly anxious at vet visits and he does not enjoy having his paws wiped. Both situations are manageable with treats and gentle handling. He does well with grooming professionals.
Buddy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and in good health. He would do best in a home with adult children. Because he can be vocal at first when left alone, a condo or apartment is likely not a good fit. If there is a yard, it must be securely fenced or Buddy kept on leash, as he likes to wander. Homes with pools must have separate fencing. Buddy has never met a cat.

Buddy is looking for a home that understands his recent losses. With consistency and reassurance, he has all the tools to be a loyal and engaging companion again.

Fill out an application for the BUDDY at: https://gerdysrescue.org/adoption-form/
NO DIRECT MESSAGE INQUIRIES PLEASE
Please note we only adopt to Montreal and nearby surrounding areas.
