BUDDY's Story

Buddy arrived at our rescue a few months ago. He was found scavenging for food at an area landfill. He had numerous scabs from previous injuries to his face, neck, and shoulders. These injuries appeared to be from dog fights. As sweet and nonreactive as he is around the other dogs at our shelter, we believe he had been used as a bait dog and then tossed aside. After being at our shelter for a couple of days we started finding remnants of black plastic garbage bags in his fecal droppings due to his search for food during his time at the landfill. His ribs were showing at that time, but as you can see in his photos, he is now in good weight and looking like the handsome gentleman he was always meant to be!! We believe he is 2 to 3 years of age. He does love people and appears to be non-reactive to the other dogs at our shelter. He has not been introduced to cats while in our care, so that is an unknown. He has kennel space, both indoor and in the outside play areas, next to other dogs with no issues. We do not put our dogs in pens together, so I do not know how well he plays with others. As always, it all depends on the personalities of both dogs. Buddy is a real people pleaser and more than willing to do his best to do what is asked of him. We train the dogs to sit before going through the gate into their enclosure and it took only twice for Buddy to learn this. He no longer needs to be asked. He is treat motivated so he will definitely be easy to train. He does not seem to be that large, but he is a very solid, muscular 54 pounds….just not very tall. Buddy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and crate trained. He walks on lead but does pull. He will make a wonderful companion for an active person or family willing to spend the time and energy to make him an active part of their life. Anyone interested in Buddy needs to own their own home and have a secure fenced yard to hang out with him and play. If Buddy looks like the perfect match for you, please fill out an adoption application through our website at www.humanesocietycitrus.com and for additional questions please email Karron at choose2rescue@yahoo.com or call 352-586-9699. The adoption donation for Buddy is $250.00
