Buddy's Story

About Buddy
Status: Available
Breed: Border Collie
Gender: Neutered Male
DOB: 03/29/2019
LOCATION: Blacksburg, VA
WEIGHT: 44lbs
COAT: Smooth Coat
COLOR: Black and White
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active Companion

Meet Buddy!

This boy really lives up to his name! At nearly 7, this handsome boy has a LOT of life in him; he has also settled his foster home in record time. He’s an easy dog to live with. He comes to us from a stable home in which his mom was no longer able to care for him properly, and it is evident in his demeanor that he has had lots of love and consistent training. He is crate trained, house trained, rides well in cars and knows a variety of obedience commands, including putting his toys away when play time is over. He loves cuddles on the couch or floor and playing with toys, particularly sturdy tugs and balls. While playful, Buddy had outgrown the craziness of his youth. He is calm, gentle, and trustworthy loose in the house.

While Buddy has lived in an urban area, he loves his yard time which he spends sniffing, exploring, finding sticks to chew and chase, and playing fetch. He could use some work on his recall. With some consistent work and high value treats, I don’t see this being an ongoing issue, but he’ll need a well fenced yard until he’s got that mastered. He prefers the yard to leash walking, but we continue to expose him to that as well. He shows no signs of reacting to traffic.

Buddy will do well as a solo dog, or in a home with a submissive dog. He will also need a home with a fenced yard and children over the age of 14. He really only alarm barks, generally plays well with other dogs when introductions can be gradual, and his behavior is unknown around cats.

If you are the perfect forever home for Buddy, please fill out an application and contact his foster parents at jenn_james@outlook.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Buddy’s adoption fee is $350.

Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
