Buddy's Story

Hello! My name is Buddy.

Location: Beaverton, OR
Age (Estimate): 4 Years
Sex: Male/Neutered
Microchipped: Yes
Current Vaccines: Yes
Parasite Prevention: Current
Weight: 9 lbs.
Children Under 10: No
Children Over 10: Maybe, if dog savvy.
Friendly With Dogs: Good with small breeds. Timid with large breeds.
Friendly With Cats: Unknown
Potty Trained: Yes
Crate Trained: Needs work, see below.
Leash Trained: Needs work, see below.
Adoption Fee: $400
Additional Notes: Buddy arrived at SSHCR on 1/31/2026. He has his quirks (continue reading and you'll see what I mean) but is a super sweet and loving dog once he gets to know you. He loves neck scratches and burrowing in a big cozy blanket. He prefers women but with time, he will come around to anyone. His favorite person in his foster home is a 6.5 foot tall male.

Buddy is a "Velcro dog" and will follow you everywhere you go once he trusts you. Unless you have stairs. Buddy has been unable to grasp going up and down stairs. But never say never, right?

If food falls on the ground, it's his. Just forget it. He will growl if you try to take it from him. He resource guards food and, while this is something he has been working on with his foster, it is something prospective adopters should consider. He will also dig in the trash can and eat whatever he can find so a tall trash can with a lid is a necessity. If it wasn't already apparent, Buddy has not always had food consistently available and has missed many meals in his life.

Buddy hates his crate but will settle into it after a while if necessary. He also hates wearing a collar and/or harness. He has made significant improvements in this area, especially since starting his anxiety medication and being neutered.

!!! Buddy has a current prescription for Fluoxetine (Prozac) for anxiety. He should stay on this medication for at least 3 months post-adoption and this medication should only be discontinued under veterinary supervision. This medication costs roughly $9/3-month supply on Chewy.

Applications can be completed at https://www.sadiessafehouse.org/adoptablepets

More information on our adoption process and policies can be found at https://www.sadiessafehouse.org/adoptionpolicies
