Brutus's Story

If interested, please contact the foster home. Petfinder Profiles doesn’t always work.

AVAILABLE
Brutus (Bubba)
Pittsburgh, PA

Meet Brutus, AKA Bubba! Brutus is a young-adult dog who ended up on an urgent list when his previous owners didn’t have enough time for him anymore. Brutus is not for the faint of heart, but if you know cattle dogs, have patience and a commitment to training, you may have just been introduced to your BFF!

Brutus needs a dedicated leader who has the knowledge and the patience to help him be the best boy he can be. He longs to feel secure and loved. Brutus isn't just a handsome face, he is also wicked smart! I know, I know, he’s a cattle dog, he’s supposed to be smart but Brutus is on a whole other level. He will sit back and observe just once, and after that, he owns whatever you were doing. This brand of smarts comes with a little bit of the ol’ stubborn strain. He listens when he’s told to “get down” from the counter but he knows that maybe, just maybe, next time there might be a treat worth the risk.

Brutus LOVES his food, so much so that he thought that other dogs were out to take it from him. His foster has been working with a trainer, teaching Brutus that it’s totally okay that the other dogs in the home are eating in the same room as he is. While he’s come a long way in his short time, Brutus will need continued support and supervision as he continues his learning journey. He does best with regular feedings and staying on a schedule.

Play time is ball time. This guy knows what he wants and he isn’t afraid to tell you all about it, he’s clear about the rules of fetch. He drops the ball, barks and waits for it to be thrown! Brutus knows how to sit, down, wait, get down, leave it and does great on leash. He’s housetrained and goes into his crate for a snack, he may bark initially but settles. Brutus loves a nice frozen bone to take the edge off at the end of a long day. He’s learning how to snuggle with his foster on the bed but can be a little startled when he’s not quite settled in. He has it in him to be a sweet boy and longs to find his special person but may take some time to fully warm up. Brutus is a true diamond in the rough and while he may take a little elbow grease initially, like any cattle dog he promises to try his absolute best to be the best boy ever.

Brutus gets along well with his foster siblings and people. He has not been evaluated around cats and would do best with older children in the home at this time. He is up to date on all preventatives and has been neutered.

Please reach out to trearick@comcast.net for any questions.

Complete an Application:

https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application
