Bruno's Story

Hello, world!

My name is Bruno, and let’s get one thing straight—I am incredibly handsome (obviously). But there’s more to me than just my good looks. I am loyal, silly, loving, and affectionate. I am also a big fan of snacks (seriously, I LOVE snacks). When I love you, I LOVE YOU. Oh, and I absolutely adore car rides and sitting in chairs. If it fits, I sit!

Now, let’s talk about the not-so-simple part. I need to be honest with you because adopting me will be different from a typical adoption. I am a big, strong boy —95lbs— and when I am scared or unsure, I have a very loud (and let’s be real, intimidating) bark. The truth is, I am a nervous and fearful dog. Not just shy, but truly afraid. I don’t trust new people right away, and I will react by barking and lunging to make you go away and to feel safe. The team here at GTHS has been working with me, and I am trying so hard to be better. I have a tailored behavior plan, special equipment, and a ton of post adoption support including a consultation and additional training sessions with our Behaviour Specialist.

Because of my needs, there are some things I absolutely require in my future home:
-No children
-No cats
-Another dog? Maybe—but it would have to be an amazing match.
-A patient, understanding and committed adopter who has a great deal of experience and who is willing to provide consistent training and help me to manage my reactivity and my triggers
-A calm and structured environment to help me build trust and continue my progress

If you are interested in adopting me, the first step is to chat with Jill, our adoptions coordinator at jill.peters@gths.ca or 705.445.5204 ext 226. She will go over your application, and we will have a conversation about me. Adopting me won’t be a quick process—I need time to learn to trust you, and you need time to learn all about me. But I know the right person is out there, and when we find each other, it’s going to be amazing.

My Underdog adoption fee is $100 and includes my spay/neuter, up to date vaccinations, dewormer and a microchip. If you want to learn more about me, please come visit the GTHS and speak with one of the amazing Adoption Counsellors! The GTHS is open for adoptions from 12pm-4:00pm, every single day of the week and they would be thrilled to introduce you to me! I can't wait to meet you and am looking forward to starting my new life with my new family!

Everyone at the GTHS is rooting for me, and I know my new home is out there. Maybe it's yours?

Love,
Bruno
