Bruiser is an extremely soulful and grateful dog who desperately needs and deserves a family of his own. His story is a very sad one, and we need an adopter's help in changing that.

Bruiser and his best friend (another dog named Dolly), were being fed at a home that they had wondered up to months prior. When the family moved an hour away, they did not bring Bruiser or Dolly with them. For the most part, Bruiser and Dolly stayed put in the yard that they once called their home. Shortly after losing the family they thought was their own, Dolly had puppies. Bruiser never left Dolly's side and was a great protector of her and the puppies. The family who once lived there, tried to come by every few days to feed Bruiser and Dolly. Tragically, eventually the puppies died of flea anemia and parasites.

Roams to Homes Rescue originally saw a social media post about the abandoned mom, Dolly, and her puppies dying. In Houston, the number of homeless pets far outweighs resources to help them. Several hundreds of dogs wonder the streets of Houston, starving and in grave danger. The shelters are overflowing and cannot accept them all, as well as have high rates of euthanasia based on lack of space alone.

We were so disturbed by the images of Dolly being abandoned and her puppies dying slow deaths, that we knew we had to save her. We had no idea at that time that Dolly had a bonded friend, Bruiser, who refused to leave her side. Once we arrived at the abandoned home to retrieve Dolly, we were told by the neighbors about Bruiser. The neighbors told us that Dolly and Bruiser frequently followed people that walked to the gas station miles away down busy roads in search of food. We knew that we could not leave Bruiser behind to mourn his companionship with Dolly and inevitably suffer a cruel fate of starvation or being hit by a car. Both dogs were being eaten alive by the worst case of fleas we had ever seen.

We only had a committed foster for Dolly. In Texas, it is nearly impossible to find a foster for one small dog, much less for a second large dog. Our only choice in not leaving Bruiser behind was to pay a boarding facility to keep him safe.

Bruiser was such a good boy in the car during his 2 hour long ride to the safety of a boarding facility. He is safe in boarding, but we are sad that he is a middle-aged large breed dog, and has already spent so much of his life on the cruel streets, starving and baring the harsh weather outdoors. We know he is confused to be separated from Dolly and can only hope he finds a family soon to show him happiness, give him a soft bed to lay on, and the company of his own family that he very much deserves.

Bruiser is estimated to be around 4 to 5 years old. He is a lower energy dog and would make someone a great companion.

Could you be the family that helps Bruiser forget his past and rewrites his story?

Bruiser is currently in Texas, but will be transported to an approved adopter out-of-state. His transport fees to an out-of-state adopter are already included in his adoption fee of $375.
