Bruiser's Story

Bruiser is a 6-year-old Retriever mix with a big frame, a big heart, and an even bigger capacity for love. This gentle boy has so much goodness to give - he just needs the right person to help him shine.

Life at the shelter can be a little overwhelming for Bruiser, and he sometimes struggles with stress and anxiety in his kennel. But once he's outside, you'll see the real Bruiser - calm, affectionate, and eager to connect. He's currently on some anxiety medication and a special diet for allergies to help him feel his best, and he's doing great with both.

Bruiser knows how to sit and has a fun little trick of catching treats mid-air! He's housebroken, well-mannered, and enjoys a mix of chill time and playful moments.

He's working on managing his excitement, especially in busy environments, and he's looking for a patient, understanding adopter who can help him continue to grow. Bruiser would do best in a home without kids or other pets, where he can have plenty of walks, consistency, and love.

This sweet boy is truly one of a kind - loyal, loving, and ready to be someone's best friend. If you have a calm home and a big heart, Bruiser just might be your perfect match. Come meet him at the Animal Protective League located at 1001 Taintor Road in Springfield. We are open every day from noon to 5 p.m.
