Bruce's Story

🐾 Meet Bruce 🐾
Bruce came to us Friday after his owner beat him for getting into the trash. Charges were filed, and Bruce was surrendered into our care.
He's what we lovingly call a house hippo, a big ol' head, a compact body, and the kind of presence that fills a room. From what we can tell so far, Brutus appears to be crate trained and house trained.
But Bruce is carrying trauma.
He doesn't yet understand what a kind hand is. He's nervous, unsure, and still learning that people don't always hurt him. Because of this, he has some work to do on confidence, trust, and handling and we're already seeing progress as he realizes he's safe.
Bruce is not a "plug and play" dog, and that's okay. What he needs is an adopter or foster with experience in behavior, training, and patience, someone who understands that healing takes time and that trust is earned, not rushed.
With the right person, Bruce has the potential to become an incredible companion. He just needs someone willing to meet him where he is and help him learn that the world doesn't have to be scary.
If you have experience with training or rehabilitating dogs and are willing to give Brutus the steady, understanding home he deserves, please reach out.
