Bruce's Story

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Bruce. He is an 8-year-old loving Coonhound who loves ever8-year-old has a short hair coat and weighs 72lb. He was found as a stray. Bruce is hearing impaired but hears fine if you raise your voice. He has done well in a home where he has other dogs to keep him company and someone home most of the time. He currently lives in the country and has a large fenced property to go outside in. He is good with the other dogs but ignores them. This is unusual for a Coonhound so it may be due to his hearing impairment. We believe regardless, he enjoys having other dogs around. Bruce is very sweet and loves to be cuddled and kissed. He is housebroken and prefers company when going outside in the yard, either the other dogs or the foster family. Thunderstorms do not appear to bother him. Bruce loves his mealtime and is fed twice daily both canned and dry. He loves going for walks and car rides. He is a creature of habit and will start barking if something changes in the schedule. We have found it best to sneak out of the house so he doesn't bark at the door. Bruce is a good boy at the vets. He loves children of all ages. He sleeps in an open crate but crating is not necessary for this boy. He is not destructive in the home at all. We are sure he has a typical Coonhound prey drive with cats but have not tested him with it. In his current foster home, the only time he barks non stop is when his meals are being prepared. The ideal home for Bruce is one where the family is retired or there is a family member home full time. Another dog is best but only for companionship as he doesn't have any interest in playing with other dogs. He is good with all sizes of dogs. Having experience with the Coonhound breed is an asset. Bruce is neutered, up to date with vaccines, 4dx tested negative, and has a dental cleaning scheduled Friday, October 9. He is on heartworm/flea prevention monthly. A fully fenced yard, another resident dog in the home, someone home full time, and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory in order to apply for our Bruce.

Open to Canadian Residents only.

Visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.
