BRODIE's Story
Brodie is a pure-bred split face Border Collie. He is a tricolor with big brown eyes that melt your heart. His former life is a mystery, and his age is estimated by the vet to be between 4-5 years old. His current weight is 45 lbs. He is a loving and affectionate boy and whoever adopts him will be extremely fortunate to call him a member of their family. He was found as a stray and was heartworm positive. After three months of treatment, while in our foster care, he has recovered and is healthy, ready and waiting for his new life to begin, in a loving forever home.

We have a theory that he may have been a farm dog, based on where he was found and how he jumps right into the back of a pickup truck. We really don’t know that for certain. We do know that he loves being part of our household and a member of the family. At first, he had no house manners and was shy with people. But these past few months he has learned a lot and has been building confidence. He is very sweet and intelligent and eager to please. He is now housetrained, uses the dog door, knows basic commands like sit and down; recall is improving and we are working on stay which is more consistent. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate with the door open. He has had a fear of strangers in the house and would bark and shy away. With reassurance this is also much improved and he warms up quickly. With gentle and positive reinforcement this should only continue to improve. He has no reactivity to people or other dogs outside the home, but he can be a little shy at first. He has shown no signs of aggression. He likes our other BC and gets along well with him but really prefers his people. They do like to run and play. He has been exposed to large crowds of people and dogs and has managed very well. He is well behaved in outdoor restaurants and spaces such as parks where live music is being played. He still needs a little encouragement and continued socialization but has come a long way.

Brodie is a marvelous companion. Whatever you want to do, he wants to do also. Brodie loves to cuddle and rest by your feet. But he is up for a long walk on a trail, or whatever you want to do. He is an uncommon combination of laid back and energetic. He is not a performance sport dog. But if you are up for a walk or hike, he will be eager to join you. If you want to relax, he will rest by your feet or cuddle next to you. Where you are is where he wants to be! And if there is water nearby, he may be interested in a swim...

One quirk Brodie has is he is afraid of thunderstorms. He will want to hide in your arms or close to you when he hears them, or you might try a thunder shirt or herbal supplement.

Brodie’s ideal home will be with someone who is calm, gentle and fun! He will continue to build his confidence with positive reinforcement, but he is already off to a great start. Brodie needs a fenced-in yard (no electric fences), and possibly another dog who is non-aggressive.

If you are fortunate enough to adopt this sweet boy, you will have a loyal and loving companion.

****************************************************************************************************

Brodie is located in Asheville NC.
